Bedtime Stories
This storybook tells what appears to be Hebrew folklore in a way that makes you feel like a traveler at a local inn meeting the subjects of the folklore. They do a wonderful job introducing the topic and creating the weary traveler vibe. I play Dungeons & Dragons so I do love a good "foreign traveler at the local inn" scene. The stories are also well told. The theme has crackling fire sounds attached to it as well as a blue color scheme with star imagery to create the bedtime story feel. I really liked this one, it drew me in with the title alone but the rest of the details made standout.
Camelot ER
This storybook tells the tales of the Knights of Camelot through the eyes of Emergency Room staff. I like the way it is formatted like a formal medical report with more detail of how the injury was sustained. When it is done like this, the main story gets told in the process. They did a great job introducing the storybook and keeping the notion of these being patient reports by ensuring that these should be kept private and only be viewed by medical personnel. The layout and theme of the blog also gave me the feel that a hospital's website or database would look like. I especially enjoyed this one as I once wanted to pursue a career in the medical field.https://sites.google.com/view/camelot-emergency-room/home
Waffle House: Creating Magic in Ancient Egypt
This storybook tells of the myths of Ancient Egypt by connecting a social common ground of our time, 24/7 breakfast chain Waffle House, as one from Ancient Egypt. I like the use of a place where many people have made many late night memories as the local common ground. They do a good job introducing the topic almost like the beginning of a documentary. I especially liked the detail about the archaeological uncovering of the Waffle House. I also liked the theme, it was easy yo navigate and included theme music.https://sites.google.com/view/syrup-and-stories/homeRa walking in to Waffle House with hieroglyphics on the wall, Great Schools, Victron Energy, Eater, Author Personal Photo
I am so glad you looked at that Waffle House one, Addison: that was one of the most fun experiments anyone has done in this class. The student was totally torn between two choices: Waffle House stories OR Egyptian Mythology... so he decided to do BOTH. And it worked! So, don't be afraid if you also find yourself stuck between two choices that really interest you for a project: one possible solution can be to combine them! :-)
